Before we get to see the event of the decade, we spent a rainy afternoon exploring the village of Oberammergau. We saw lots of painted houses, this was our favourite. It showed the story of Red Riding Hood.
When we decided to duck out of the rain we found a cute little cafe and tried a traditional German lunch with bratwurst, a delicious way to warm up.

We’re so excited to get to see Passions Spiele (that’s Passion Play the way the Germans say it)! We’re not allowed to take pictures when the show is on but we wanted to show the stage and how it’s a big open area theatre, so we jumped up for a quick picture before the start.
The idea of this play started almost 400 years ago when the villagers in Oberammergau promised to God to put on a play about Jesus and the story of how he died to try and keep the plague away from their village. Since the first play they all get together and put on the play every 10 years.
The whole show is set up and performed by people that live in the village, even though they’re not professional actors the show was terrific and we had a great time.
