We’re in Croatia! What a lovely view of the Danube from up the hillside.

There was a man taking us on a tour to tell us all about some of the history of Croatia. First he took us to a Russian monument that was put up after World War II.
And he gave us a bit of their history about how their leader, Tito, signed an agreement in 1948 that formed Yugoslavia, Croatia was part of that big country. But after Tito died, in 1980, Yugoslavia started to break apart in six separate republics.
We heard about many stories of the Croatia war fighting for independence that happened in the 1990s (the tour guy was living there in that time). He also showed us damaged buildings and a huge water tower with lots of bullet holes.
He had an interesting saying about war – it’s not a single tragedy but thousands of personal tragedies. It’s sure good that they ended that war and they are busy rebuilding their country now.

After all that talk of war it was a nice change to pretend to go back in time about 100 years as we visited an open air museum that shows everyday life in a village, with original cottages and work buildings of how life would have been. They even had a man demonstrating how to make bricks from hay, mud and water the build houses.
The museum people invited us to stay for lunch, too. We got to have an authentic meal with bread baked to earthenware oven and local slow cooked veal. It was so delicious!

In the afternoon we visited the Vućedol Culture Museum. At this place they showed us some things that have been found from a local archaeological dig that dated back to between 3000 & 2500 BC. So amazing that they found these things after all this time.
