Last day … Taking it Easy

It was a lazy morning as we watched to see if the weather would improve ( it rained in the night). But as the picture shows the sky is blue again so we decided to take a bus and head out to Nymphenburg Palace.

Believe it or not, this palace was the summer residence for the Elector, Max Emanuel, in the late 1600s and early 1700s. It started out just the centre part with done out buildings, but Max than his successors continued to add wings and more buildings, and it kept growing into the 1800s.

There are even some beautiful big gardens, with canals and fountains. A perfect place for a lovely walk, but watch out for the swans and geese.

We decided to take a peak inside the main part of the palace, too. Everything is so fancy, with lots of very ornate vases and clock, gold trim on lots of things, sparkly chandeliers, and huge paintings (even on the ceilings). There is even silk on the walls to match the fabric on the furniture.

It seems like so lavish and big for a summer home. Way too big for us!

On our way back to town we decided to stop at the Olympia Park. This park was originally built for the Summer Olympic Games in 1972. It has a very unique architecture shape to the main buildings, we heard that it was designed it look like the nearby Bavaria mountains (we can see that).

We also saw a lake and a hillside on the other side, that the sign called Olympic mountain. It’s not really that tall, but you get a good view from up there. Someone told us that it’s a man made hill built from all the rubble gathered when everything was cleaned up after World War II. And the is a really, really tall tower ( the sign says 291.28 meters).

The park was very busy with all sorts of activities, and workers even busy constructing a new building that will be a new multifunctional sports arena, that is planned to be ready to celebrate the park’s anniversary later this year.
