It’s a leisurely morning as we cruise the Rhine River looking for castles up on the hills. Look there’s one way up there. We heard this is the Marksburg Castle, a medieval fortress over 700 years old, and the only one along the Middle Rhine that wasn’t destroyed. Built as a stronghold protecting the town of Braubach. It sure looks majestic!
After lunch we arrived in Rüdesheim. We heard about a cute little train that travels through the town and decided to take a ride. It was really bumpy riding on the cobblestones but we saw many of the town’s shops and sites along the way.

When we got off the train we saw a little place called ‘Siegfried’s Music Cabinet’, we were quite curious so we went to see it. Inside we found a museum that has over 400 mechanical, self-playing music instruments, many from a long time ago. This one is from 1925 and plays all those pipes and drums by following instructions on a paper that rolls with mapped out tiny holes. Fascinating!
The sun is out and it’s so nice we decided to take a cablecar up the hillside over the town’s vineyards and from up high we saw a great view of Rüdesheim, the Rhine River and beyond. We can see for miles (or should we say kilometres).
