Canada Government Town

We learned lots about government and the places the government people work and live. We went for a bus ride to Rideau Hall – that’s where the Governor General lives. Did you know that when important people, even Queen Elizabeth II, visit they get to plant a tree? The yard has so many special trees it’s like a forest.

After that we got to tour the Parliament Buildings, but we needed to go through special security (they’re sure extra careful who can go there). We saw where the government talks about the laws they want to make, and the library where they learn things. We even go to go way up in the Peace Tower and look out all around the city.

There’s buildings all around us, they told us this one is the West Block.

On our way back we stopped at the War Memorial (the place we see on TV on Remembrance Day), to look at the statues and we got there at just the right time to watch the guards change. They marched around with great precision and one guy played songs on bagpipes, such a serious ritual.
